Note that the Company Directory and Org Chart will only be accessible if they are enabled.
If you have access to view the Company Directory, you can access it by going to the People tab and clicking Directory in the top right corner.
The Company Directory list is in alphabetical order based on the last name of employees. You can find employees by using the search bar in the top left corner. The search bar will allow you to search by name, department, division, location, or job title.
You can group the directory by name, department, division, or location. There are also quick filters to narrow down the directory to the right group of people, which includes the following:
- My Circle (your peers, manager, and direct reports)
- Department
- Division
- Location
- Custom Filter (a combination of multiple filters at one time)
Hovering over an employee's direct reports will show you a listing of employees who report to them.
Hovering over an employee's information will also show their local time. This will generate based off their location time zone settings.
Clicking Quick access to the directory will take you to a new tab with your Company Directory on it. You can bookmark this page to make it accessible to you without logging in to BambooHR. The bookmarked page will require you to log in every 30 days.
You can easily see if an employee is out of the office because their information will appear grayed out in the directory. The exact dates during which the employee will be out will appear on their profile picture. (See Ashley Adams above.)

Clicking on an employee's picture will pull up a larger version of the image, along with the directory information they can see on the main page.
If you have access to view the Org Chart, you can access it by going to the People tab and clicking Org Chart in the top right corner. The Org Chart will default to the top-level company official(s) and their direct reports.
- Use the search bar to search for an employee. Keep in mind that only users who have a listed hire date or employment status date are searchable in the Org Chart.
- The +Add Employee button will allow admin users to quickly and easily add a new employee.
- Determine how many levels you would like to have shown in the chart.
- Refresh the chart to go back to starting with the CEO and their direct reports.
- Click on the arrow to pull down the employees who report to a specific person. The number denotes how many direct reports the manager has. Their direct reports will appear in alphabetical order.
- You can pin a specific employee to the top to show only them and their direct reports.
- This arrow allows you to navigate up the org chart if you search for an employee.
- Determine the details you want to have shown in the Org Chart. Only admin users can see the option to view an employee's hire date. What each employee can select to view is determined by what is enabled in Settings.
- Download or export the Org Chart. Any users with access to the Org Chart can download or export it.
- Zoom in or out to get the best view of the Org Chart.
- Click More on an employee's tile to see the additional details selected from the gear icon.
- Clicking on an employee's picture will pull up a larger version of the image, with any company directory information the user has access to see.
Here are a few tips to remember when an employee is not showing up correctly in the Org Chart:
- If an employee DOES NOT have a hire date or an employment status date listed, they WILL NOT be searchable or show up in the Org Chart, even if they have a manager listed under the Reports To field in the Job Information table.
- If an employee HAS a listed hire date or an employment status date AND direct reports, the employee WILL be searchable and show up in the Org Chart. The employee is not connected to the main Org Chart if they do not have a manager listed under the Reports To field in the Job Information table. It is by design for the top-level CEO or president of the company to be at the top of the Org Chart. If you have multiple employees showing up at the top of the chart, view the example below.
- If an employee HAS a listed hire date or an employment status date but DOES NOT have a manager listed, the employee WILL NOT show up in the Org Chart. Instead, the employee is in the action menu under "Employees without a manager." This option is only viewable to the Full Admin user(s).
An employee will automatically appear at the top of the Org Chart if they do not have Reports To listed on the Job Information table but have direct reports. This situation allows for multiple heads to appear at the top of the Org Chart.
If an employee unintentionally showed up at the top of the Org Chart, a higher-level user needs to edit the employee's Job Information table on their Job tab. They can correct it by adding or editing the Reports To field. In the screenshot above, Adam should report to Jenn Caldwell and not appear as a top-listed company official.
Export the Org Chart as a PDF or PNG file

When you choose to export a PDF or PNG file of the Org Chart, the export will default to show the current employees on the screen. However, you can choose to customize the export to select a new set of employees. If you choose to customize the export, the following options will be available:
- Start with: Select which employee do you want to be at the top of the Org Chart. Only users with direct reports are available in this list.
- Levels to export: Select how many levels you want to show under the starting employee.
- Include: Check the box next to each of the items you would like to have in the export file.
- Download PDF or Download PNG: Select which option you would like to download.*
Once you click the download option, the Org Chart will output into an image in the dimensions that will accommodate the number of levels and employees. It means it will not be in an 8.5 x 11 size. You will need to resize the image to meet your needs.
*If you are exporting a small Org Chart, a PDF or PNG file is a great option. If you export a large Org Chart, we recommend you download it as a PNG file because the PDF file is constrained on page size and can get unwieldy for large Org Charts. A PNG file is best for large Org Charts because it will scale to the necessary dimensions without creating a lot of extra white space. If you are putting an Org Chart in a slide deck presentation, a PNG file will be a seamless integration because you can scale the file to the size that works best for your presentation.
There is no option to paginate when downloading the Org Chart. We looked at various ways to make the output work in regular paper sizes. However, we felt that the best way to give you the flexibility to arrange and size it in the way you need was to provide an image that you can resize (PNG) to any page, slide, or canvas size. Also, you can choose which employee to start with, determine how many levels, and create sub-charts for teams or departments.
Export the Org Chart as a CSV file
When you choose to export a CSV file, you will receive all employees' data instead of only the employees you currently see on the page. An export includes information that varies by type of CSV files exported. Export is available in the following formats:
