How does Backgrounds Online integrate with BambooHR?
Purpose: To help you understand what you can use Backgrounds Online for and how you can integrate it with BambooHR.

Before enabling this integration, log in to your BambooHR account and click Settings. Select Hiring and add the following candidate statuses:
- Background Check Request
- Background Check Started
- Background Check Completed
These statuses will be triggers for initiating a background check, sending notifications when a background check is in progress, and alerting you when results are ready to review.
Log in to your Backgrounds Online account. Navigate to the avatar in the top right corner and select Integrations.
Enter your BambooHR subdomain* and click Update.
*The subdomain is the first part of your BambooHR URL. For example, if your BambooHR URL is https://helpcontent.bamboohr.com, your subdomain would be helpcontent.
If you have not logged in to BambooHR, a new window will automatically open with your BambooHR URL. Enter your login credentials. If you have already logged in, it will automatically link your access.
You will see a green checkmark next to "Connection Status" when the integration setup is complete.
- Click Edit under Configure your package options to designate the BambooHR hiring status you wish to use to initiate a background check and the associated default package.
- Click Edit under Configure your results notifications to designate the pending and complete background statuses in BambooHR.
To initiate a background check in BambooHR, navigate to a candidate profile and change the candidate's status to the status you have designated to initiate the request in Backgrounds Online. In the example above, the status is Background Check Request.
The candidate will receive an email notification with a secure link for authorizing the background check package you have selected.
Once the candidate submits the information to process the background check, it will automatically update the candidate's status to reflect the status you have designated as the in-process indicator (i.e., Background Check Started).
Additionally, a note will automatically appear on the candidate's Notes tab, containing a link you may have copied and pasted into your browser to view more information on the order.
Once the background check is complete, it will automatically update the candidate's status to reflect the status you have designated as the results indicator (i.e., Background Check Complete).
Additionally, a note will automatically appear on the candidate's Notes tab containing a link you may have copied and pasted into your browser to view the full report in your Backgrounds Online account. You will receive an email notification letting you know the background check is complete.
